Southwatch Flow exemplifies the harmonious intersection of organic design and functional simplicity, blending fluid architectural gestures with grounded practicality. Inspired by the historical arced ditches that once routed water to strawberry fields in the area, the form of this single-story residence is as much a tribute to the past as it is a statement for the future

Situated on a prominent corner lot, the design thoughtfully shields the home from the harsh northwest winds while opening up expansively to a private backyard oasis. This duality ensures the residence maintains privacy and protection from the street-facing side while fostering connectivity and openness on the interior-facing side.

With its flowing lines, tapered ceilings, and rhythmic use of weathered steel exterior fins, Southwatch Flow is a testament to Colorado Architects F9 Productions’ ability to draw inspiration from nature and history to create modern architectural masterpieces.

Design Concept

The architectural language of Southwatch Flow draws from the fluid movement of water and the organic patterns of the surrounding environment.

  • Flowing Form: The curved shape of the home embraces the backyard, creating a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces. The tapering ceilings, which rise from 8 feet at the edges to a grand 14 feet at the central opening, enhance the spatial drama and connection to the outdoors.

  • Material Expression: Weathered steel exterior fins are used as a defining feature, adding rhythm and texture while accentuating the project’s name and concept. These fins also create a balance of solid and void, offering visual connectivity where desired and maintaining privacy where needed.

  • Protected Living: The northwest façade shields the home from wind exposure, ensuring the backyard remains a serene and usable space regardless of the elements.

  • A unique design inspired by F9 Productions’ renowned Eastwatch residence, echoing its organic forms while creating a standalone architectural identity.

  • A fluid floor plan that balances openness with well-defined spaces, creating a natural flow that enhances both aesthetics and functionality.

  • Thoughtfully tuned openings in the façade to maximize natural light and outdoor connectivity.

Construction Type

  • Wood-framed construction with custom roof framing members to create the organic, flowing structure that defines the home’s unique character.

Energy Efficiency

  • Ducted split system with a heat pump ensures efficient heating and cooling, keeping the home comfortable year-round while minimizing energy consumption.

Floor Plan Highlights

  • Entry & Mudroom: The main entry leads to a spacious mudroom with built-in cabinets, creating a functional and welcoming transition into the home.
  • Kitchen & Dining: A spacious kitchen is separated from the living area by a non-continuous partition wall, allowing for subtle division while maintaining an open feel.
  • Living Area: The living room opens dramatically to the backyard, creating an indoor-outdoor connection that is accentuated by the soaring ceilings.
  • Bedroom Wing: A hallway leads to the master bedroom and master bathroom, thoughtfully positioned to provide privacy. The guest bedroom/exercise room is separated for flexibility and multi-functional use.
