Design Concept

The design of the expanded Santiago’s at Santa Fe embodies a modern desert-inspired aesthetic while maintaining the vibrant cultural character that makes Santiago’s a cherished brand. The goal was to maximize square footage without triggering new zoning requirements, and the project achieves this by smartly reconfiguring and adding to the existing building envelope.

One of the most iconic additions to space is the rooftop deck, offering patrons a unique outdoor dining experience with views of downtown Denver. Additionally, the addition of a walk-up ordering window enhances customer experience, especially for those looking for quick pickups or deliveries via platforms like DoorDash and Uber Eats.

The architectural facelift blends classic southwestern design elements with modern, minimalist touches to bring Santiago’s into the present day. Warm earth tones, clean geometric lines, and thoughtful material choices reflect Santiago’s mission to be the leader in Mexican food along the Front Range.

  • Maximize Space & Seating Capacity: By tripling the seating capacity of the original layout, the design includes a larger indoor dining room, outdoor patio dining, and the introduction of a rooftop deck.

  • Walk-Up Window for Ordering & Pickup: A new customer-friendly walk-up window allows for quick service and order pickup, making it easier for patrons using delivery services such as DoorDash and Uber Eats.

  • Exterior Facelift: The renovation modernizes an aging structure, transforming it from a dated 1990s aesthetic to a contemporary desert-inspired design that aligns with Santiago’s evolving brand identity.

  • Smart Use of Existing Space: The expansion focused on maximizing usable square footage without triggering additional zoning restrictions, making the most of every inch of the 2,930-square-foot site.

Energy Efficiency & Sustainability

This project does not feature specific energy efficiency measures, but the smart re-use of an existing structure reduces the environmental impact compared to new construction. Additionally, the rooftop deck introduces natural outdoor dining spaces that reduce energy usage related to interior lighting, HVAC, and climate control.
