Rooted in the earth and lifted toward the light, the Native Sun Headquarters is more than an office building — it’s a physical expression of a company’s identity. Designed by F9 Productions, this custom commercial project captures the spirit of Native Sun’s core trades: excavation, concrete, utility, and earthwork.
Located in Monument, Colorado, the headquarters sits at the intersection of nature and industry, where wetlands meet open sky and Air Force training paths trace the horizon. The design reflects that duality — strong yet refined, grounded yet open — creating a place where hard work and innovation coexist in harmony.
The Idea:
From the beginning, the goal was to design a structure that embodied both Native Sun’s grit and grace. The concept emerged from the land itself: a building formed like a rock split by time, its central corridor representing a canyon carved through stone.
This trench-like atrium, illuminated from above by continuous skylights, serves as the building’s heart — a linear space that connects departments, people, and purpose. Exposed steel columns along the façade resemble roots unearthed by excavation, symbolizing the company’s deep connection to the ground it moves.
Design and Craft:
F9 Productions approached the project as both architects and storytellers, translating a brand built on earthwork into architectural form. The building’s steel superstructure and concrete slabs provide strength and permanence, while wood finishes add warmth and approachability.
Inside, interior storefront glass defines offices and conference spaces, promoting transparency and communication. The design blends rugged durability with contemporary elegance — proof that industrial roots can yield refined, modern design.
Work Meets Play:
One of the project’s most distinctive features is its integration of wellness and recreation into the workplace. A full-size indoor basketball court and elevated catwalk bring movement and energy into the daily rhythm of work, fostering camaraderie and health among employees.
An expansive upper-level deck offers open-air views of nearby wetlands and Air Force training flights, turning break time into moments of awe and reflection.
Challenges and Collaboration:
When Native Sun approached F9, they did so after less-than-positive experiences with prior architects. Clear, consistent communication became the foundation of success.
By bringing together a hand-selected team of consultants who share F9’s values of integrity, responsiveness, and precision, the project regained momentum. Design milestones and submittals met every target — a reflection of what can happen when trust and collaboration are prioritized.
The Result
The Native Sun Headquarters is a building shaped by the land and the people who work it. It honors the company’s heritage while pointing toward its future — a workplace that’s functional, inspiring, and unmistakably theirs.
Grounded in earth, lit from above, and built for connection, this headquarters redefines what a modern industrial workplace can be: rooted, radiant, and real.
