Imagine a home where Colorado’s plains meet the mountains, shaped by the land itself. Lucky Lane is a resilient retreat for a couple seeking sustainability and calm, with buildings that step gently down the hill – a thoughtful response to wind, sun, and family growth.
Client and Brief
It began as a woodworking shop, but grew into a full plan as the family expanded. Inspired by Scandinavian simplicity, it includes the home, garage, and future workshop linked by a breezeway, all focused on views and practical living.
Problems Solved
Budget held back the workshop, but we designed for it anyway. The home catches solar warmth in winter and shields from winds, making it efficient and cozy without extra costs.
Design Concept and Form
The core balances nature’s forces – framing mountain views with big windows, while the layout pushes and pulls to fit the hill perfectly for flow and shelter.
Construction and Materials
Thick walls and concrete bases provide top insulation, with a heat pump for all-year comfort. Overhangs manage sun, keeping energy use low and the home strong.
Interior Design
Open areas connect kitchen and living to outdoors for gatherings. Bedrooms and offices are quiet retreats with views, adaptable as the family changes.
Outcome
From Summer 2023 to October 2025, Lucky Lane becomes a grounded home that endures. It brings views, efficiency, and warmth together, creating a space for family, nature, and lasting peace.
