Project Overview

As the northern gateway to Boulder, the Diagonal Highway & 30th Street intersection presents a prime opportunity to reimagine a long-standing convenience store into a modern, multi-purpose destination. This redevelopment is designed to not only expand the store’s retail space but also introduce electric charging stations, a liquor store, a kitchen, and an inviting dining experience with breathtaking views of the Flatirons Mountains.

The architectural inspiration comes directly from the iconic Flatirons in the background, with the roofline of both the main structure and fuel station mirroring the sharp, angular peaks of Boulder’s most famous geological feature. This design ensures that the project is not only a functional and modernized convenience store but also an architectural landmark that reflects the natural beauty of the area.

Client Goals & Features

  • Expansion of convenience store to accommodate additional selling space and an improved shopping experience.

  • Integration of EV charging stations to promote sustainable energy solutions for travelers.

  • Addition of a liquor store, full kitchen, and scenic dining space to create a destination experience rather than just a stop.

  • Enhanced customer experience with an outdoor dining area that frames spectacular views of the Flatirons.

Design & Construction Approach

  • Inspired by Nature: The roofline mimics the jagged peaks of the Flatirons, seamlessly blending the built environment with Boulder’s natural beauty.

  • Sustainable Infrastructure: The introduction of electric charging stations aligns with Boulder’s commitment to environmental consciousness and sustainable transportation.

  • Modern Retail & Dining: Expanding the retail footprint allows for a larger selection of beverages and consumer items, while the second floor brings new culinary and leisure experiences with both indoor and outdoor seating areas.
