Description:

Intro:

  • Undeveloped lot in Park County

– In a valley with amazing views to the mountains, which are what the most significant glass wall is oriented towards

  • Going to be the first iteration of an A-frame series. This will be the “black” version with an entirely black exterior, which will eventually see a white counterpart brought to reality.

    – Black corrugated metal for siding and roofing for “near seamless” blending of materials

  • Sense of camping under the stars achieved by placing skylights above beds for direct view up to the night sky while laying down at night

Client Drivers & Unique Features:

  • F9 was very excited to have a client come to them with the definitive desire for an A-frame, which are frequently dream projects for most architects.

  • Simple form means customizations can be made in other ways (e.g. A-frame dormer to the north instead of the more common shed roof).

  • Really get to design the interior space and play with window arrangements.

Construction Type:

  • Wood-framed construction, elevated off of ground on what are essentially concrete stilts for minimal impact on the land (almost no excavation required)

Energy Efficiency:

  • Entirely electric (baseboard heaters) other than wood burning stove
  • No need for A/C at this elevation

Main Floor Plan:

    • Stair placed right at main west-side entry (breaks up interior space symmetrically)
    • Full height great room (living and dining room) with 23’ maximum ceiling height
    • Kitchen has great views to rock outcropping to the north

Upper Floor Plan:

    • Loft with views down to living room and dining room below as well as unobstructed views of the mountains
    • Master bedroom has views to the east while master bathroom has ideally placed bathtub with the same rock outcropping views as the kitchen directly below it
