Description:

Located on a unique 50-acre sloping site with an abundance of natural rock and water features close by, this custom residential barndominium (a barn with an attached dwelling unit) was designed by our F9 team with the seamless integration of indoor-outdoor spaces in mind. The living area flows into a large garage area which has plenty of space for even the sturdiest truck, as well as a fifth wheel and other toys. Due to the home being nestled in the beautiful mountainous terrain of Winston County, access to the outdoors provides a hunter’s paradise that reflects in the space having ample room for butchering deer and turkey, as well as a large walk-in freezer. A spacious wraparound covered porch and screened-in patio allow for the serenity of the outdoors year-round and maximizing the enjoyment of the beautiful mountain vistas.

The home has been creatively engineered to be completely protected in the face of even the harshest elements that Mother Nature may throw your way. Alabama is no stranger to heavy winds and rains from hurricanes, as well as the occasional tornado, and our top-notch designers have kept this at the forefront throughout the building process. Additionally, as the client has children with special needs, their comfort and stability are a critically important factor in the building process of this home. The children will have easy access to water features in the form of an on-site pool, expansive views of nature out of every bedroom window, among other consciously curated choices.

A pre-engineered metal building will serve as the groundwork to maximize cost efficiency and simplify the construction process. The lower level features a tornado shelter with a bunker and media room for comfort and safety.

The main floor features a polished concrete slab-on-grade that is both pleasing to the eye as well, as low maintenance and helpful in terms of long-term energy efficiency. A generous great room flows into the dining room and kitchen, providing an open concept space for boundless entertainment opportunities. The vaulted ceilings that soar above the main floor are 23’ at their highest point, making the entire space feel like a serene retreat. Large barn doors can be opened to the outdoors when the weather permits, allowing fresh air to flow through the house. These barn doors can also be fortified during a storm to provide extra safety measures. Enjoy the luxury of a double-sided fireplace that graces both the great room and screened-in porch and savor your time in the outdoors with the additional warmth provided. An extra kitchenette on the porch allows for a plethora of ways to watch the sunset while cooking up a quick bite to eat. These carefully crafted additions were designed to maximize time in nature while seamlessly blending the indoor-outdoor experience.

In the loft, a media room looks down to the great room below. An additional bedroom for a child was designed in the loft as well as an extensive attic and storage area. Enjoy a harmonious balance of modern living and the outdoor paradise landscapes that are the lush rolling hills of Winston County.
